Planning low-error SHM strategy by constrained observability method

Structural identification using dynamical parameters (such as the natural vibration frequencies and mode shapes) is an important issue, especially in bridges or high-rise buildings. However, incorrect decisions could happen on Health Monitoring (SHM) strategy System Identification (SSI) analysis that makes sometimes expensive time-consuming process useless due to large uncertainty of resulting estimations. This paper discusses role SHM SSI based constrained observability method (COM) decision trees (DT) reducing estimation error. Here, COM uses subsets and/or modal-shapes deal with nonlinearity derived from operational aspects methods, combines unknown items including shapes into optimization process. Next, a decision-support tool applied help engineers establish best + yielding most accurate The principle steps this new method, combination m,ethod trees, are presented for first time. After that, numerical model bridge case used show how choose optimal strategy, when factors such structure layout, span length, measurement set, included variables. importance ranking these four COM, length through sensitivity estimated. Last, real validate methodology under undamaged damaged scenarios by comparing Error Index, which shows works well no matter not. leads significant insights can decision-making avoiding erroneous if not beforehand.
